“If I can help somebody, cheer somebody,
with a word or a song, then my living will not be in vain.”

With 2200 members and growing, we currently have over 270 volunteers!
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and become more involved in the Club. Volunteering also helps out the Club, as many aspects are managed by its members.

All the income collected by the individual clubs within the Evergreen family and by the Evergreen Lounge food services and special events are invested back into the Club to pay for expenses and buy new equipment.

To get started, fill out a Volunteer Registration Form and submit to the Filberg Centre front counter, or in person or by email to Deanne McRae (email address below). Thank you!

If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Deanne McRae at 250.338.1000, or email dmcrae@courtenay.ca.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Trash & Treasures Concession
We still need a couple of people to help run the concession during our Trash & Treasures Sale in the upper Conference Hall on Sunday October 22nd. Different shift times are needed to cover the concession’s opening and closing time of 8:30 – 2:30. If you love a good multi-vendor market, why not have fun volunteering and then scope out the sale!

Kitchen Caller
We are looking for someone who will be able to receive voice mail and reply in a timely manner. Periodically, a volunteer can’t make their kitchen shift and you would be required to call someone in to cover it from the spare sheet. If you are comfortable on the phone then this is for you! Each month, five kitchen phoners fill the spares for one calendar week. It’s always a plus if you are email friendly but not mandatory.

New Year’s Eve Convenor
Would you consider convening the New Year’s Eve dinner dance? The band, bartender and the caterer are already booked and in place! It would require the convenor to organize the volunteers (with help from our volunteer coordinator) for
decorations, setting of tables, at door (pre-sold tickets only) and clean up. You would be a fl oater checking in with those folks volunteering and helping them where you can.

Charles Dickens Craft Faire
We are taking names of anyone interested in helping out with “at door” volunteering. Those that helped last year will be contacted. The convenor for this weekend’s food services is Cecile Frost, who, with help from Alisha, will be organizing this weekend Evergreen Club fundraiser. There will be many volunteer shifts and positions in the kitchen to fill. The Faire takes place Nov.10 – 12th.

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program
Can you help with this program? Greeters are needed to help clients to fill out basic information forms (screening required). Tax volunteers are required to help with simple tax returns. This is a good time to get involved as you can train and complete the required screening during our quiet time. You can shadow one of our current volunteers this fall and be ready to help when we hit the busy season early in 2018. If you would like to know more please contact Janet, email, call or drop by her office.

Card Person
Big Kudos to Edith Harper our Card Lady for nearly 12 years! It’s time she passes the torch. If you are someone that is reachable to take get well or bereavement phone calls & messages from our members, then we want you! This is a nice volunteer position if you wish to help out from your home. You must be able to mail out cards when required. Cost of cards and postage will be covered.

Those listed above are just a sample of some of the opportunities we have for volunteering.
