“If I can help somebody, cheer somebody,
with a word or a song, then my living will not be in vain.”

With 2200 members and growing, we currently have over 270 volunteers!
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and become more involved in the Club. Volunteering also helps out the Club, as many aspects are managed by its members.

All the income collected by the individual clubs within the Evergreen family and by the Evergreen Lounge food services and special events are invested back into the Club to pay for expenses and buy new equipment.

To get started, fill out a Volunteer Registration Form and submit to the Filberg Centre front counter, or in person or by email to Cathy Audia (email address below). Thank you!

If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact the Assistant Coordinator, Cathy Audia at 250.338.1000, or email caudia@courtenay.ca.

Royal Wedding Celebration
If you love to get fancy and are a fan of The Royals then this June 7th afternoon event is for you! If they fascinate you then put on your hair fascinators and white gloves! Various volunteers are required for this member only event: prep work, table set up, serving, and clean up. “Pip, Pip and Cheerio!”

July 1st Tea Dance
The Evergreen Club gets approached each year to run this event (at 2pm in the Native Sons Hall). The Georgia Strait Big Band gets looked after by the July 1st committee and the hosting (and supplies) of free refreshments and desserts by our Evergreen Club volunteers. Love music? Love Canada Day? Love a fun community social event? Then we want you! Our Special Events Committee chair, Helen W, will be the convenor for this Canuck celebration. We need a team of red and white clad volunteers to help with: set up, greeters, servers, and clean up.

July 21st Market Day Pancake Breakfast
We are looking for a convenor (or ideally two co-convenors) for heading up the organizing of volunteers for the Market Day Pancake Breakfast Buffet. It takes upwards of a couple dozen people to put on this ‘Everyone Welcome’ event (it’s nice to divide people up in different shift times for a smaller commitment). It’s a great way to start your day volunteering and giving back to the Evergreen Club (then go and spend some time downtown checking out the sales and entertainment on 5th Street!)

Bartender Spare (Pop Service & Licensed opportunities)
Love live music? And have a desire to quench our thirsty dancers? Then we want you to be a spare for our pop service dances. Full training will be provided. Must be comfortable with cash duties, spoken orders, and closing up. Training provided. Or alternatively, do you have Serving it Right and want to help bartend at one of our licensed special events? We want to hear from you folks too!

Kitchen Spares
We appreciate any time you can offer! We are always looking to add more kitchen volunteers to our spare board. Various times include opening shift 8am-10am, AM host shift 10am-1pm, Dishwasher shift 11:30am-1:30pm, and the closing PM host shift of 1pm-3:00pm when the kitchen closes and then the shutdown process begins. We like to match the spare shifts to your needs and preferences so you won’t be called unnecessarily. Training provided. NOTE: Kitchen shift times may change for July/August.

Kitchen Caller
We are looking for someone who will be able to receive voice mail and reply in a timely manner. Periodically, a volunteer can’t make their kitchen shift and we need a volunteer to call someone in to cover it (from the detailed spare sheet we provide you with). If you are comfortable on the phone, then this is for you! Each month five kitchen callers fill the spares for one calendar week. It’s always a plus if you are email friendly but not mandatory.

Those listed above are just a sample of some of the opportunities we have for volunteering.
