A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings to all…and WELCOME back!!!…..Don’t look now but here we go again. Little hints of autumn!!!….and time to get back to fall & winter routine here at the Evergreen. However, this place being the Comox Valley, I’m sure we will see a lot of great fall weather come and go before the daily overcast sets in. I personally will be firmly holding on to the great summer and fall weather as long as I can.
Summer was a busy time in the valley and I hope you all took the time to enjoy what summer provided. Besides pretty reasonable weather there were a number of major events to enjoy. The July long week-end activities in Courtenay and the August long-weekend activities in Comox were at the forefront of the activities list. Excellent fireworks in Comox by the way that were enjoyed by large numbers this year……hope you had the opportunity to take it in. The Sunday Evening Concerts at The Simms were also great and well attended. It was wonderful to see many of our members at the Retro-Rock Revival a couple of weeks back with many dancing up a storm on the Simms grass……nothing is musically better than those 50’s & 60’s oldies when it comes to dancing and singing along. Many of our members enjoyed an EXCELLENT Ice Cream Social on Thursday August 15th. I’ve been told that it was a great event as I was not available to attend. I just happened to be on the receiving end of some cataract surgery on that day…..happy to report that all seemed to go well and I’m now looking forward to doing the other eye in a few weeks. Modern Medicine is a wonderful thing, even when you have to wait for it.
So now it’s onward and forward into the upcoming activities. Many clubs that took a summer break will be back in full mode and our Special Events calendar will resume. The near future will feature our own Evergreen Club Choristers presenting Madcap Melodies on Friday September 20th at 2pm in the Conference Hall followed by the Country Harvest Celebration on Saturday September 28th from 5:30 to 8:30 in the Rotary Hall. There will be a BBQ and live entertainment. Then it’s our annual Garage Sale on Saturday October 5th from 9 ’till noon in the Rotary hall. It’s time for the membership to start clearing out all those unwanted items. Donations for the sale can be dropped off at the Centre Lower Lobby on weekday mornings from Monday September 23rd to Thursday October 4th. Large items can be dropped off on Friday September 21st by 11am. Always remember that what may be cast-offs to you could be a treasure to someone else.
That’s a wrap for the moment but once again….”WELCOME BACK”……..and a quote from Albert Einstein before I go……”Stay clear of Negative People…They have a problem for every solution”…………..ADIOS….gk
