November 2019 – President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings Everyone!!!!…..It’s really hard to believe that another year is close to the end but it seems it is. When good old November pokes its nose into our lives and the wind and rain descend upon us, it is truly a sign of that the dreaded post fall season is upon us. It becomes that time period of waiting for something better to happen. I don’t know about you but I have always had a strong disregard for that time slot between the beginning of November and the end of January, and the older I get the stronger that disregard is. However, amongst this time there is the festive season and all that it brings to our lives, so in case you need a reminder, there are about seven good weeks of Christmas shopping left…..Good Luck with that little item.

Our Federal Election was the highlight item in September and it seems that it passed with little change in our political structure. I’m sure that the results brought a certain degree of satisfaction to some and to others it was not the outcome you were hoping for. No matter how you feel about it all, voting in our Canadian democratic system is a privilege not to be taken lightly. We enjoy the best kinds of freedom not always available to folks in many other places. That’s why it is always disappointing to hear that many did not take advantage of this freedom. Once again it appears that only about two thirds of eligible registered voters in Canada voted in the recent Federal election. Those are not good numbers for a wonderful country like ours. Keeping our democracy strong requires participation and elections are decided by only those who make that effort to participate. Good on those amongst us who did take part… should feel good about it all.

Our big November event is our Evergreen Club Members meeting on Wednesday November 13th. It will be held in the Rotary Hall and commence at 10am. We intend to provide you with a report on the past years activities and happenings as well as a financial breakdown. There will be a confirmation of your Executive for the upcoming year and we will have a guest speaker to talk on matters of interest to our members. Light refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes. Please plan to attend if you are able…..we would really appreciate your support. We have a great club here with great members and great volunteers that make it all happen…….hope to see you there. Other November happenings include the Evergreen Club Bazaar and Luncheon on Wednesday November 27th followed by the Comox Valley Concert Band presentation of “TRADITION” on Sunday December 1st…..details of these two events can be found in this newsletter.

That looks like a wrap for the moment folks……see you all at the MEMBERS MEETING……and REMEMBER, It does not matter if you are a DEER or a LION, when the sun comes up you had better be RUNNING at your best……Adios for now….gk
