June 2018 – President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings Everyone!!!!…..It has been said that “SUMMER” and all it brings is the greatest tonic for all that might ail you. From golden sunshine to beautiful flowers, summer can warm even the coldest of hearts. There exists an air of promise and a vibrancy that is almost overwhelming. We Comox Valleyites have had good reason to be pleased and full of hope lately as summer has announced itself with great possibilities these past few weeks. Although officially not here until June 21st, it’s somewhat apparent that great days lie ahead…’s time to get out there and enjoy…….and shake off those winter blues.

Our hard working Volunteer Coordinator Deanne McRae is leaving us and that is going to be a huge loss for our club. Deanne has been offered a position with the very well regarded YANA organization and she is most enthusiastic about the opportunity. YANA is a highly recognized and active group in the Comox Valley and does a lot of great work. Deanne will be a very positive addition to their organization. We wish her the very best in her new endeavor and thank her most heartily for her many contributions while she was with us….THANK YOU DEANNE!!!

While talking about volunteers I’d like to discuss a bit about “CLUB REPS”. As you all know, we have many activity clubs within our Evergreen Club. Each of these clubs would normally have a club rep who would be selected by the members of that club to represent them when necessary. These people are the conduit between their club and the many other members of the Evergreen Club and also people outside the Evergreen who may be interested in becoming members. The position should be taken seriously if you are to be an effective leader. In saying that, I would like to see more of you attending the once a month meetings with your executive and other club reps. These take place after the executive meetings (11am) on the second Monday of the month and you have an open invitation to attend and represent your club. There you will be given the opportunity to receive information that may be of importance to your club and you are also provided opportunity to speak on behalf of your club and pass onto others at the meeting information on your club. It would be great to see more of you there…..and many THANKS to those who do already regularly attend.

That’s a wrap for the moment……but keep this in mind…..”If everything seems to be coming your way, you are most likely in the wrong lane”…..Adios….gk
