July/August 2018 – President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Hello once again!!…..Summer is totally upon us and as such, things around the Evergreen will be shifting into summer mode. Some clubs take a summer break while others continue their activities through the July and August months. If you are amongst those taking a break I hope you have a wonderful summer and enjoy the freedoms that summer gives.

There is not a lot in the way of Special Events over the next couple of months but there are a pair of activities to keep in mind. In conjunction with the City of Courtenay’s sponsored July 1st celebrations the Evergreen Club will be hosting the annual July 1st Tea Dance at the Native Sons Hall. The Georgia Strait Big Band will be there and it is all FREE. It is always a great afternoon of fun and celebration so be sure to stop by.

The other thing to keep in mind is our Market Day Pancake Breakfast on Saturday July 21st. The “5 Buck Breakfast” is the best meal deal in town and is also a great fund raiser for our club. And on Thursday August 16th at 1pm we will be sponsoring a “Members Ice Cream Social”……a members free ice cream get together at the Evergreen, hopefully outdoors…..stay tuned.

A couple of new faces around the Evergreen these days. Cathy Audia is our new Assistant Coordinator which actually makes her our new Volunteer Coordinator with added administrative responsibilities. She’s nestled in Deanne’s old office, so if you have a moment, drop by and say “HI”. The other young lady that you have seen about the place is Jody Comparelli. Jody is a student who will be with us for 8 weeks under the Canada Summer Jobs Program. She will be helping with many of the administrative duties that are part of our Evergreen operation. Take the time to meet Jody when you see her about.

I don’t have a whole lot more to add at this time but would like to wish you all a wonderful summer. The Comox Valley is an absolutely great place to be when the sun is shining….actually it’s the greatest place to be at any time but it’s “EXTRA SPECIAL” in the summer. Don’t forget those Simms Park Sunday Night Summer Concerts. There is an outstanding line-up of talent scheduled for these summers concerts…..some of the best that the valley has to offer. And remember that Music Fest is just around the corner….always a great weekend. So “ENJOY”…..and when September comes you’ll be ready and fired up for another “EVERGREEN SEASON”…….and don’t forget the Sun Screen!!…… adios…gk
