A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings Everyone!!…..seems we were awakened recently with what some might call a “Snowmageddon”. Here we were, smug as can be, feeling really good about ourselves because the winter of 2019 – 2020 was turning out to be a cakewalk with no snow and warm temperatures. We waltzed through November and December with little to show in terms of winter weather. We swung into the New Year with nary a thought as to what might come. Even when it finally snowed all around us we seemed to escape the grip of winter snowstorms and we were almost giddy about our good fortune in continuing to enjoy the surrounding green grass…..THEN IT CAME!!!……and you all know the rest of the story…..especially those who reside out Cumberland way. However in typical Comox Valley winter weather fashion the heavens opened with “Big Rain” and here we are…..basking in tropical surroundings. Is the winter of 2019 – 2020 officially over???
And now onto other things. The New Years Dinner and Dance turned out to to be a great party. I’m somewhat experienced in many of the past parties as my band has had the privilege of playing the music for many of them. They have always been a good function but the New Years party which recently introduced 2020 was probably one of the best as the folks that were there just seemed to have an extra abundance of enthusiasm and spirit. I was surprised at the number of folks that actually made it to midnight to see the New Year in. Thanks to all who attended and made it a great night….and a very special “THANKS” to the volunteers that made it happen. A few other great events that made January rock were the Saturday Night Dance Party on January 11th, the Chinese New Years Lunch on January 15th, and the Monday Melodies featuring “The Singalongz” on January 20th. Many thanks to our Special Events team for providing these great functions. The Tracy Lynn & Greg Blake Concert is an upcoming musical Special Event that you should plan to attend. This outstanding duo will be appearing on Sunday February 9th In the Florence Filberg Conference Hall with a wonderful mix of good old fashioned fun music, song and banter. Tickets are available at the office and will also be available at the door.
As I am putting this report together I hear of the death of basketball star Kobe Bryant and eight others, including his young teenage daughter, in a Helicopter crash. I am left in a state of disbelief. What an absolute tragedy!! Another testament as to how fleeting life can be. Remember to always keep love alive, love your partner, love your family, love your friends, love life. Always try and be your best and enjoy the “NOW”…..the past is simply the past and nothing more.
I’ll put a wrap on this for now…..Adios and be well….gk
