A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings Everyone!!!…Now that January is in the rear view mirror it’s time for some small celebration……because weather-wise nothing feels better than having the months of November, December and January behind us for another year. In this part of the world they are never the months of sunshine and reasonable weather and this year has been no exception. The time of that damp cold with rain and snow mixed in for our added pleasure is hopefully behind us as we turn to “Groundhog Day” (Friday February 2nd in Canada) for the word on the future of winter. With any luck our old buddy “Wiarton Willie” will see no shadows and the Comox Valley will become a warmer place……..and if you believe that you might want to get a check-up!!!
Now onto “Evergreen Things”. While the weather outside was less than pleasant, things inside were warm, cozy and busy over the last couple of months. We experienced a number of great presentations by our very talented membership and we were part of several excellent social get togethers and enjoyed the wonderful fellowship that the Evergreen Club provides. All of those happenings came about as a result of a lot of hard work and planning. Deanne and her “Volunteer Team” are to be commended on their fine work….THANKS to all of you for keeping our club vibrant and full of life. Special thanks to “Friday Night Mary and her dance team” for organizing a great Christmas dinner and dance event and to Sheila Buchanan and her team for coordinating a wonderful New Years function. Our Volunteer Coordinator Deanne is always on the look-out for new volunteers for various activities….she would love to talk to YOU.
Ongoing social activities in February include “Friday Night Dances” on each Friday night in February with February 16th being dedicated as a “Valentines Dance”. The Dan Hughes Band will be the band of choice on that evening. A very
special “Big Band Dance Night” will follow the next evening, Saturday February 17th at the Native Sons Hall and will feature The Georgia Strait Big Band. It is an Evergreen Club sponsored activity. Dancing starts at 7:30pm with tickets now available at the front office or at the door. Ticket cost is $15 for members and $18 for non-members.
Our “Members Meeting” is scheduled for Wednesday March 21st at 1pm in the Rotary Hall. Janet has provided all details of the meeting in her report which is included in this issue. We would love to have a good turnout for the meeting so put in on your calendar of things to do.
A parting thought…….Be careful when you follow the masses…..sometimes the “M” is silent.
And now a final thought….If you had to choose between drinking wine every day or being skinny……..would you choose RED or WHITE???
THAT’S ALL FOR NOW…..ADIOS!!!…gk
