February 2019 – President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Well….how about that winter!!…..Here we are at the end of “The Dreaded January” and nothing serious to report. Sure we had a little snowfall a couple of weeks back but it was gone within hours…..and the flowers are already poking through in Victoria. Spring may still not have sprung but it’s doing it’s best to getting started and hopefully things will continue in that manner….no winter type last minute surprises please. I don’t know about you but I’m pleasantly pleased with the Comox Valley winter of 2018-2019….and the bonus by the way is the good snow on Mount Washington.

It was back to regular activities around the club in January with our many in-house clubs back in full action mode. It’s great to walk about the club on any given day and see our members at the busy with all the different activities. We had opportunity to say a final farewell to our good friend Ken MacLeod at the recent Robbie Burns Day Scottish Concert and Afternoon Tea. Ken would have been extremely proud of how well everything went. Many thanks to all those who contributed to making it a great success….and many thanks to all those that attended.

For our newer members who may be just getting settled in and involved, our volunteer gal Cathy has a spot in the newsletter called Cathy’s Corner. If you are looking to get involved, all you need to get started is all there…..opportunities and information is there for you or you can drop by and see Cathy at her office…. and YES, two can fit in her office. Another thing for our newer members to be aware of is the “New Members Tea” that is held on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Evergreen Lounge at 1pm. And not to forget…the nursing students from North Island College will be around for the next couple of months and joining in with our activities. Show them a big welcome and make them feel at home.

Don’t forget our the Evergreen Club “VALENTINE’S DANCE” on Friday February 8th featuring the Georgia Strait Big Band. Activities start at 7:30pm in the Conference Hall. It’s an Evergreen Club fundraiser. And there are some great travel opportunities upcoming. Check out the Evergreen Club travel pages in the newsletter….it’s all there!!

That’s a wrap for now……and REMEMBER……”When everything is coming your way, You’re in the wrong lane”…..Adios…gk
