December 2017 – President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Well, here it is….well almost anyway….another Christmas just around the corner and the end of another year right behind it……and do you think 2017 has gone by in a flash?…..well, I certainly do. This “getting old” thing seems to have gotten out of hand and it would be nice to slow it down a little….but I guess that’s not going to happen so let’s all enjoy it for what it is get the most out of it.

I’d like to take a moment to THANK all those who took the time to come to our Members’ Meeting on November 9th. Our two speakers, Dave Snider from the City of Courtenay and our very own Janet gave excellent presentations on club issues. They touched on all the important points that had been swirling around for the last few months and satisfied those that attended that everything is going well and is expected to continue that way in the future. We will continue to be what we are and who we are and our Evergreen Club has a very bright future ahead. A BIG THANK YOU goes out to them both for their input. I felt that it was a good meeting and I do hope that all those that attended felt likewise. Our 2018 Members’ Meeting will be held in the spring with a date to be announced. There will be ELECTIONS at that meeting.

A busy December lies ahead at the Evergreen Club. December special events begin on Sunday December 3rd with “Around The World In Eighty Minutes”. The Comox Valley Concert Band will be on hand to present an afternoon of International Music which will include Christmas selections. The show is set for 2pm in the Conference Hall and tickets for this event will be available at the door. Following along on Friday December 8th, it’s the Evergreen Club Yuletide Dance with the Dan Hughes Band. It’s in the Conference Hall and an assortment of delicious appetizers will be served during the event. Doors open at 6:30pm with dancing starting at 7:30pm. Then its our very own Evergreen Choristers presenting their Christmas Concert on Saturday December 16th in the Conference Hall at 1:30pm. Tickets are available at the office or will also be available at the door. Wrapping up December activities and bringing in 2018 will be our Evergreen Club New Years Eve Dinner and Dance on Sunday, December 31st in the Rotary Hall. Doors open at 6:30pm and a very delicious roast beef dinner will be catered and served at 7pm with dancing to The Amigos to follow ……and at midnight we will welcome in 2018.

That about puts a wrap on things for now but on behalf of the executive and myself I’d like to wish each and every one of you a “VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS” and a “Wonderfully Happy New Year”……adios!!!…..gk
